EDWARD W. BRADY

Mr. Brady is a former Principal of Miles & Stockbridge P.C. of Baltimore and an experienced trial and appellate counsel appearing regularly before both state and federal courts. Mr. Brady represents a variety of corporate and individual clients in a diversified litigation practice including criminal defense, product liability, contract/business litigation, and motor torts. Mr. Brady serves as regional trial counsel for a number of major manufacturers and before leaving Baltimore to start FRATUS | BRADY, LLC, he served as national coordinating counsel and trial counsel for a major manufacturer of household products and personal power tools headquartered in Maryland. Mr. Brady also served as defense counsel to the Mayor & City Counsel of Baltimore/Office of Risk Management for the defense of claims against the City's emergency medical service providers.

Mr. Brady is an experienced civil and criminal trial lawyer. In the civil forum, Mr. Brady has handled matters on behalf of individuals and corporations involving a wide range of claims including: professional negligence, simple negligence, breach of contract, civil rights violations, product liability, premises liability, tortious interference, fraud, civil conspiracy and breach of warranty. In the last two years, Mr. Brady has served as plaintiffs' counsel in three wrongful death actions: two motor torts, both involving large transportation companies, and one complicated premises liability action before the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.

Recent civil matters of note include:

  • Six-figure settlement of a wrongful death action involving the death of a motorcyclist, Circuit Court for Prince George's County.
  • A defense verdict returned on behalf of two paramedics of the Baltimore City Fire Department following a four-week jury trial involving allegations of professional negligence, intentional torts and civil rights violations. Muhammad v. Mayor & City Council, et al., Circuit Court for Baltimore City.
  • Summary judgment on behalf of a Baltimore City paramedic against whom plaintiffs had asserted wrongful death claims and the appellate defense of the judgment. McCoy v. Hatmaker, 763. A.2d 1233.
  • Summary judgment and successful appellate defense of a landmark judgment in favor of a Baltimore City paramedic in an action for wrongful death. Chase v. Mayor & City Council et al., 756 A.2d 987.
  • Defense verdict in favor of Black & Decker (U.S.) Inc. in a product liability action following weeklong jury trial before the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Allstate v. Black & Decker (U.S.) Inc.
  • Dismissal of a multi-million dollar product liability suit against General Electric Co. arising from a marina fire outside Annapolis, Maryland. Reigle, et. al v. Baltimore Gas & Electric Co., et al., Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
  • Acting as counsel to the Maryland Port Administration in 2001, Mr. Brady successfully negotiated the tender of the MPA's defense to the lessee of property on which a truck driver had sustained a serious injury after unsecured steel had fallen from the roof of a loading station.

    As a criminal defense attorney, Mr. Brady represents clients confronting charges ranging from serious felony misconduct to misdemeanor and traffic offenses. Mr. Brady has handled both federal and state prosecutions and military courts-martial, and he has appeared as counsel in several high-profile trials, including the General Court-Martial of United States v. Simpson, a landmark case arising from the so-called "Army sex scandal", and one of the most highly-publicized trials in recent military history.

    Mr. Brady was born and raised in Annapolis and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1985. As a scholarship student at the University of Delaware, he was a four-year Letterman and Captain of the varsity lacrosse team, as well as a cadet in the University's Army Reserve Officer Training Corps, earning both his degree and commission as an officer in the United States Army in May of 1989. After earning his law degree from The Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, Pennsylvania in 1992, Lieutenant Brady then reported for active duty at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, where he would later be appointed as a Special Assistant United States Attorney and the Chief of the Criminal Law Division in the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate. At the conclusion of his first tour of active service, Captain Brady was assigned as the Officer-in-Charge of the Fort Meade regional field office of the United States Army Trial Defense Service, serving the National Capitol Region and Military District of Washington. At the expiration of his military service, Captain Brady was awarded the United States Army Meritorious Service Medal.

    Mr. Brady returned to civilian practice joining the Litigation Department of Miles & Stockbridge P.C. in the firm's Baltimore office. Mr. Brady was elected as a Principal of the firm in 2002. In 2004, Mr. Brady left Miles & Stockbridge P.C. to pursue his practice in Annapolis, forming FRATUS | BRADY, LLC.

    Mr. Brady is a current member of the Board of Officers of the Touchdown Club of Annapolis and a past member of the Board of Directors of the Anne Arundel County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Inc. Mr. Brady is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association and the Anne Arundel County Bar Association and is admitted to practice before the following courts:
